Description:

Martinique, French Colonies, 1859 Eagle issue, 10 centimes Bister on Yellowish, horizontal strip-of-three, one stamp sideways (Scott 3a; Yvert 3a). The sideways position at right end of horizontal strip-of-three, used with single 40 centimes Orange on Yellowish (Scott 5; Yvert 5), tied by "MQE" diamond of dots cancel, matching "Martinique St. Pierre 26 Juil 66" double-ring circular datestamp on bluish 1866 folded cover to Nantes, France, small red boxed "PD" also just ties error strip, "Paris a Bordeaux H 14 Aout 66" railroad transit marking and "Nantes 14 Aout 66" arrival marking on reverse. "Colonies 14 Aout 66" red double circle transit marking and blue oval merchant's handstamp ""C. Ariès St. Pierre, Martinique."
A most desirable cover with the sideways variety, signed Calves.
