Folded letter originating from New Orleans to Vabre France, w/ pair of 10c Green Washington and single 1c blue Franklin.

A rare example of a 1-cent stamp used with something else in which the something else is of greater interest TO ME. Congratulations on the 10-cent pair being positions 86-7L1, Types IV and III, a scarce recut/unrecut pair. The 1-cent is likely a Type IV (recut) stamp. Or, in the vernacular, a single of Scott #9, and a horizontal pair of Scott # 16 and #15.

For the significance of the position 86L1 stamp, you may wish to refer to the 10-cent book by Neinken. It is freely available to all on the Classics Society website at their Electronic Library. Refer to page 24. You will instantly become an expert plater!

Scott's US Specialized Cataloge has the specific information about the stamp, and listings for singles, pairs, etc. I would imagine that any US Vol. 1 of any vintage lists the individual #'s.

Good luck!
